Comments Seller provides bank details (sort code & account number), buyer uses paying in slip in their local branch of sellers bank to pay cash / cheque into sellers account. Receipt could be scanned and mailed to seller as proof of payment. Could also use other bank or Post office to pay in but adds extra delay.

Comments Some worries about giving over bank details, but in practice they are exactly the same details provided on every cheque used. The banks have different names for this i.e. 'Pay Someone' and 'Third Party Payment'

It has been reported that Post Offices rarely ask for id when cashing uncrossed Postal Orders, the sender should retain the stub.

Comments can be paid into your UK bank like a normal cheque, no charges to pay, but unlike a cheque are treated as cleared funds, so no delay while they clear. If lost etc the issuing 'bank' may claim that you have used them incorrectly "you are supposed to counter-sign them in front of the retailer or exchanging bank"

Comments PayPal now operates in Sterling, Euros and US$, but you need to be aware of the advantages and disadvantages and costs of each currency. You are advised to quote your own UK£ to US$ conversion rate due to the figure used by eBay being significantly lower then the going rate, it is normal to see conversion rates of between £1 = $1.50 and £1 = $1.60. Basic PayPal membership does not allow you to accept payments from credit cards only from other users accumulated balance's, but carries no transaction fee. It can be worth watching the exchange rate they use, so that you can withdraw your funds at the best rate. Almost essential if you are intending to sell to the US.
(There's an inconsistency between Paypal's T&C and eBay's about whether PayPal fees can be passed on to the buyer)

Comments HSBC can accept any EU or EEA currency free of charge into a sterling account. The buyer will most likely have to pay a fee to their own bank. You can also EFT to other European banks, depending on the receiving bank / country at HSBC it costs between about £6-10.

Comments There are Western Union Agents in most UK Towns (typically Travel Agents, News Agents, Off Licences). It is free to receive money, but costly to send (the minimum you can send is £15 for which the fee is £8 (£15-£25 = £8, £26-£50 = £12, £51-£100 = £14 etc) ). To send money you either visit the web site, phone 0800-833833 or visit one of their Agents, you give the Agent the payment & fee and the name of the recipient and they give you a 10 digit payment tracking number, you give the recipient the number and they then visit their local agent with proof of their id and they can them take the payment in their local currency.
This service is not secure i.e. the recipient need only prove his id and he can then withdraw the payment

Full service (buy & sell) in 17 countries. 10 other countries can make credit / debit card payments but cannot accept payments. The flat fee structure ($0 - $100 = $6, $100.01 - $1500 = $12, $1500.01+ = free) makes some values of payment better/worse value for money then others.
