Sellers are sometimes sent a fixed price offer for a current auction if they end it early
- To end an auction early and sell the item off eBay could be considered as Fee Avoidance
(see the
Listing Policy
for more details)
- If you want a quick sale and are happy with the offered price then you might want to accept the offer.
- But, you should consider the following
- If I leave the Auction running will I make more then the offered price
- Why is the person making an offer when they could win the item for less if they bid normally,
some of the possible reasons include
- They know / anticipate your item selling for more then they are offering
- They may be selling a similar item and don't want you competing with them
- They are hoping to buy the item from you and sell it at a profit
- They may regularly compete with a circle of other bidders for similar items
and be trying to get the item before the others start bidding on it
- If you accept the offer the transaction will not be protected by eBay fraud protection and you
will not be able to leave feedback for each other. (You could relist the item at the agreed
price, as a buy it now only auction and let the person bid)
- At the bottom of the item description page are links for canceling any current bids and
ending the auction early.
- My advice to anyone who asks about private offers is to tell them "I have chosen to sell this item
in an auction, you are welcome to bid normal, good luck"
